Tyler Hansbrough confidently picked his Tar Heels to beat the Wildcats in the CBS Sports Classic, struggling to come up with Aaron Bradshaw’s name and calling defense the name of the game in what became an 87-83 victory for Kentucky. Oops.

Now the North Carolina legend is ready to apologize to Big Blue Nation. Except, not really — in Hansbrough’s unlikeable way, maybe.

First, it was a knee-slapper: “It’s Tyler Hansbrough, your favorite analyst and college basketball player.” Teehee, adorable. Next. “I owe you guys an apology. You smacked my Tar Heels and I’ve got to give you some credit. I underestimated you.” OK, now we’re getting somewhere.

Then, the catch.

“I was just going off the fact that you guys lost to UNCW at Rupp,” he snarked. “And you guys almost lost to Saint Joseph’s at Rupp. And then you blew a 14-point lead to Kansas late in the game. I thought for sure my Tar Heels would win, but they didn’t. So congratulations on your first Quad 1 win of the whole year.”

The most backhanded compliment of all backhanded compliments, despite North Carolina sitting at 1-3 in Quad 1 opportunities through ten total games. Kentucky is 1-1, but I digress.

Then came the rest of his half-assed apology filled with crocodile tears and head pats while also throwing more backhanded shade at Coach Cal for not fouling up three in the final seconds.

“You guys are a young and developing team. And also, I’ve got to give Cal a lot of credit. Not fouling up three late in the game when we turned it over, that was a great coaching decision. Cal, good job,” Hansbrough said. “But also, don’t feel too good about this dub. You know what happened last time my Tar Heels lost to you in Vegas. We came back in the tournament, my guy Luke Maye hit a shot to send us to the Final Four, so don’t forget that.”

That’s the full transcript to save you the click they’re desperately looking for.

He predicted a 96-84 win for North Carolina. He was wrong.

Go Cats.
