Tyler Herro dropped 44 points in sweatpants at the Miami Pro League

A broken shooting hand forced Tyler Herro to miss nearly all of the Miami Heat’s legendary postseason run to the NBA Finals earlier this year, but after several months of rehabbing, he’s quickly rounding back into form.

On Friday night at the Miami Pro League final, Herro — aka “Boy Wonder” — exploded for 44 points in what was his first real run since suffering his untimely injury back in mid-April. But more impressively, he did so while rocking sweatpants. Herro also hit the game-tying shot with 11 seconds left on the clock, which came against a squad that included his current Miami Heat teammate and fellow former Kentucky Wildcat, Bam Adebayo. The Miami Pro League consists of several current NBA players.

Herro’s best highlight wasn’t even on offense, but rather on the defensive end when he went up and swatted a dunk attempt at the rim. He might have looked like an NBA 2K created player out there, but he sure was hoopin’.

During the 2022-23 season for the Heat (his fourth in the NBA), Herro was just as effective as he was the season prior, which saw him take home the league’s Sixth Man of the Year trophy. Now a full-time starter, the 23-year-old shooting guard averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season while shooting 43.9 percent overall, 37.8 percent from distance, and a league-high 93.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Although he hasn’t played in a real NBA outing since breaking his right hand during Miami’s first playoff game on April 16, Herro has been a constant talking point within the media throughout the offseason. He’s been rumored as a critical outgoing piece in any potential deal that would bring All-Star point guard Damian Lillard to Miami from the Portland Trail Blazers.

The conversation surrounding Lillard’s trade request has been tricky, but Herro showed why he’s worthy of being the main trade chip for a player like Lillard.
