Tyler Herro expected to miss 4-6 weeks with broken right hand
The injury bug infected Sunday’s NBA Playoffs slate.
First, it was Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies, who landed awkwardly on his hand and now his status moving forward is “in jeopardy”. Then, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks came hard down on his back, resulting in a lower back contusion that did not see him return to the floor. Not long after that in the same game, disaster struck once again, as Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat broke his right hand.
These things happen in threes, so they say…
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, Herro broke the middle and ring finger of his shooting hand and is now expected to miss between 4-6 weeks.
The injury occurred during the end of the second quarter of the Heat’s Eastern Conference first-round matchup against the Bucks. While diving for a loose ball, Herro slid across the court but missed the ball. He was in clear pain in the immediate aftermath, hunching over and clutching his hand. The former Wildcat actually remained in the game for another couple of possessions and even attempted a corner three-point shot, which fell short.
Miami would go on to win the game without Herro, 130-117, giving the eight-seeded Heat a 1-0 series advantage over the one-seeded Bucks with a massive road victory. Prior to his injury, Herro managed 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists on 5-9 shooting (2-4 3PT) in 19 minutes. But the Heat will likely be without its microwave scorer for at least the next two rounds of the Playoffs if the team were to make it that far.

A 4-6 week recovery timeline would have Herro returning during the beginning of the Eastern Conference Finals at the earliest or the beginning of the NBA Finals at the latest.
The Heat will now lean even more on multi-time All-Star Jimmy Butler, who finished with 35 points and 11 assists in the Game 1 win, along with fellow former Wildcat Bam Adebayo, who went for 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in Sunday’s victory.
