Tyrese Maxey is questionable with an illness. Will tonight be his flu game?
Tyrese Maxey‘s playing status is uncertain ahead of tonight’s Game 2 in New York. Earlier today, it was reported that Maxey came down with an illness in the Big Apple after scoring a game-high 33 points in Game 1. The former Wildcat is considered questionable with this mystery illness on Monday afternoon. NBA writer Tim Bontemps says Maxey will miss the team shootaround:
On Friday, Maxey and his fellow Philadelphia 76ers took the Amtrack from Philadelphia to New York’s Penn Station, conveniently located beneath Madison Square Garden, before Game 1 in the Sixers-Knicks series. The move was applauded by fans of the train system, but some Maxey fans online wonder if the public transport (they had a private car) played a role in Maxey feeling under the weather today. Street meat, yellow cabs, food delivery, Madison Square Garden hot dogs, and 99-cent pizza have also been blamed for Philly’s star falling ill as Philly tries not to fall down 0-2.
Those same fans are calling for Maxey’s flu game tonight if he is able to play.
New York is a six-point favorite with the uncertainty around Maxey.
Maxey shined in Game 1
The Knicks were the better team on Saturday, winning 111-104, but Maxey was hard to contain in Philly’s losing effort. The former Wildcat scored 33 points on 14 for 26 shooting in the Garden. He called Game 1 “a dog fight” and expects more of the same the rest of the way.
