During Kentucky’s 81-66 victory against Penn on Saturday afternoon up in Philadelphia, ESPN had a surprise for the broadcast in the first half. Former Kentucky star Tyrese Maxey was in the house at the Wells Fargo Center and jumped on the headsets with Kevin Fitzgerald and Carolyn Peck.

The former first-round pick who was a second-team All-SEC selection during the 2019-20 season spent some time on air talking about his Kentucky experience. The Philadelphia 76ers guard dished on his time at Kentucky and what advice he would give the current team.

“I’d probably have to say the practices. Yeah, the practices with Quick [Immanuel Quickley] and Ashton [Hagans],” Maxey said when asked about favorite memories at Kentucky. “Those memories. Coach Cal pushed us so much to push each other. It was a really good deal and I do appreciate him.”

Tyrese Maxey is currently having a phenomenal season for the Philadelphia 76ers. The 23-year-old is averaging 27.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in a career-high 38.4 minutes per game. Maxey is quickly becoming a legitimate No. 2 to Joel Embiid in Philadelphia and has this franchise once again in contention in the Eastern Conference despite James Harden leaving town.

The former Wildcat is one of the best Kentucky alums in the NBA and is well on his way to an All-Star Game appearance.
