TyTy Washington is heading home to team up with another former Kentucky Wildcat.

On Friday morning, the Phoenix Suns announced that the franchise has signed Washington to a two-way contract for the upcoming 2024-25 season. A native of Phoenix and the 2020-21 Arizona High School Basketball Player of the Year, Washington will join forces with four-time NBA All-Star Devin Booker in the Suns’ backcourt.

Going into his third season as a pro, Washington appeared in 11 games for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023-24, averaging 1.3 points in 5.1 minutes per game. The 6-foot-3 point guard spent the summer playing for the Bucks’ Summer League team. With the Suns, he’ll likely serve as the third-string point guard behind Tyus Jones and Monte Morris.

Washington spent one season at Kentucky in 2021-22 (making All-SEC along the way) before being selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He started his pro career with the Houston Rockets in 2022-23 where he appeared in 31 games as a rookie, including two starts. There, he averaged 4.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 14 minutes per outing.

While his NBA minutes have been limited through two seasons, Washington has performed at a high level in the G League. He saw 24 games of action for the Wisconsin Herd (Bucks’ affiliate) last season with 23 starts. He averaged 21.3 points, 8.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 31.8 minutes per contest.

Washington was solid during five Summer League games with the Bucks this past July. In 18.5 minutes per game, he posted averages of 11.3 points and 2.3 assists on shooting splits of 43.6/36.4/87.5. Nothing remarkable, but enough for the Suns to give him an opportunity.

A two-way contract means the Suns can send Washington to the franchise’s G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, at any point in the season. A two-way player cannot participate in the postseason and is limited to a maximum of 50 NBA games. Additionally, a team can choose to promote a player to a standard contract during the season.
