Last night, word spread that Kentucky sophomore center Ugonna Onyenso injured his ankle in a closed scrimmage ahead of the GLOBL Jam. This morning, John Calipari confirmed the injury on social media and said that Onyenso will miss Kentucky’s first game vs. Team Germany, and his status for the remainder of the event is uncertain.

“At the end of yesterday’s scrimmage, Ugonna hurt his ankle,” Calipari tweeted. “He’s not going to play today and we will have to see if he can do anything the rest of the week. I am proud of how he played yesterday against Africa. He had six blocks and impacted the game in a positive way.”

A KSR listener sent Matt Jones a picture of Onyenso being helped off the court during the scrimmage, which Kentucky ended up winning by a sizable margin. Hopefully, we’ll get another update from Calipari or Kentucky after today’s game. Either way, the Cats will be playing small ball, as fellow center Aaron Bradshaw is recovering from foot surgery. DJ Wagner, Rob Dillingham, Antonio Reeves, Justin Edwards, Tre Mitchell, Adou Thiero, Reed Sheppard, Jordan Burks, and Joey Hart make up the rest of the roster.
