Ugonna Onyenso returns to practice, could play vs. UNC

Is Kentucky about to get a second 7-footer back on the floor? Just two weeks after Aaron Bradshaw made his debut for the Wildcats, Ugonna Onyenso is on the cusp of returning to game action, as well.
John Calipari ruled the sophomore center out ahead of the team’s matchup vs. Penn in Philadelphia on Saturday, but noted he could return the following weekend vs. UNC in the CBS Sports Classic down in Atlanta. And then during his call-in radio show Monday evening, Coach Cal confirmed that possibility.
First up? Full-contact practice starting this week. They’ll monitor his progress before making a final call on his availability against the Tar Heels ahead of the matchup.

“I mean, adding guys at this time, this stage without a whole lot of practice. Ugo will start practicing this week, so we’ll have two of the three (7-footers),” Calipari said. “Will he play this weekend? I’m hoping he’s able to give us something if we need him. We’re playing a team this weekend that’s big. Big players, strong players. It’ll be a challenge.”
Bradshaw has been a positive addition to the lineup for the Wildcats. What kind of impact can Onyenso make in year two? We’ll find out soon — potentially as early as Saturday.
