Were you watching the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday? You may have caught the UK Athletics commercial that aired during the worldwide event, one highlighting the $82 million renovations to Historic Memorial Coliseum nearing completion.

It’s the biggest investment in women’s sports facilities in school history, a state-of-the-art facility for Kentucky‘s women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and STUNT teams. And the school wants to let the world know about it.

“Big Blue Nation, we are nearing the finish line of something truly historic,” the commercial says, narrated by STUNT’s Emma Green, gymnastics’ Isabella Magnelli, women’s basketball’s Georgia Amoore and volleyball’s Asia Thigpen. “Fueled by the legacy of those who came before us and the spirit of every Wildcat. Stories written, championships won. These walls may look different, but these halls still carry that spirit. The largest investment in women’s athletics in our history.

“Four sports to carry the banner, in honor of all Kentuckians for who this building was named. Welcome back to Historic Memorial Coliseum.”

The commercial will air throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics ahead of the venue’s official reopening in mid-August for the start of volleyball season.

Kentucky women’s basketball recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at its new-and-improved locker room inside Memorial Coliseum featuring an updated film room, lounge, bathroom and kitchen, among other amenities.

“Oh, so thankful for our new space,” they said.

“Competitively, again, I think it is really close to the action. I think it will help our young people,” UK AD Mitch Barnhart said of the new-look Memorial Coliseum. “They’re going to get excited about the fans that will be close to them and cheering them on. With the new scoreboard, sound system, and lights and things that we can do, I think we can create an environment that’s really cool competitively. A lot different than what we’ve had.”
