On Monday, April 6 - also known as National Student-Athlete Day - Martens will talk to ESPN anchors Hannah Storm and Jay Harris LIVE on SportsCenter at 12:35 p.m. EST. https://twitter.com/AlexMartens2/status/1246801434147983360 Since 1987, National Student-Athlete Day has been celebrated annually on April 6, however, this will be the first time it doesn't coincide with any sports. According to the Institute for Sport & Social Justice (ISSJ), who created the tradition, the day is meant to honor "high school and college student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics, while having made significant contribution to their schools and communities." To meet the requirements, each student-athlete must boast at least a 3.0 GPA while also being heavily involved in community service and outreach. Before her final collegiate season was cut short due to COVID-19, Martens was dominating the college softball scene as a hitter. She was riding a 20-game hit streak while also leading the NCAA in RBIs per game and total RBIs (47) through her 24 outings. Softball America named her the No. 3 player in the entire country and the top individual player in the SEC.
