“Dream schools” are only reflective of a dream until you wake up (or in this case: grow up).

Kentucky Women’s Basketball commitment Erin Toller was enamored with the idea that she could one day help continue the legacy of the Tennessee lady Volunteers program. Despite growing up in the Lousiville area and attending Sacred Heart Academy, the draw of playing for a traditional powerhouse in Tennessee caught her attention from an early age.

In a recent interview with the “Cats By 90 Podcast”, Toller explained how she nearly committed to play basketball for UT the moment she received a scholarship offer from them. The Lady Vols were her “dream school”. Instead, Toller decided to wait, and eventually committed to becoming a Wildcat.

I never thought I was going to Kentucky,” Toller said on the Cats By 90 Podcast. “My dream school was Tennessee. When I had got my Tennessee offer, I got that before my Kentucky offer… I was gonna commit on the spot, but I decided to wait.”

Toller, who is a 2020 Miss Kentucky Basketball candidate, described how injuries late in her high school career gave Kentucky the edge. Especially during her second knee injury (she tore her ACL on two separate occasions), she explained that Matthew Mitchell and the UK coaching staff were the most encouraging and connected. She missed roughly two years of basketball due to the injuries and Kentucky stuck by her side throughout her rehab.
