UK WBB offers Bardstown star Leah Macy

Kentucky Women’s Basketball has offered one of the state’s top players.

On Saturday, an incoming freshman at Bardstown High School, Leah Macy announced that she had received an offer from Kentucky while on an unofficial visit in Lexington.

The offer is the 10th overall for the Class of 2025 star joining the likes of Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Illinois, and in-state schools EKU, WKU, and Murray State.

Macy started her high school basketball career as an eighth-grader last season at Elizabethtown High School.

During the COVID-19 shortened year, she averaged 18.9 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. The point total finished as the 27th highest in the state of Kentucky and her rebounding total was the 7th best in the commonwealth.

Being in attendance for one of her games last season, it was clear that she was one of the best players on the floor as a middle schooler. She carried herself with a different mentality and displayed strong post play on the inside. Maybe the most impressive part of her game was how she moved in transition, clearly finding passing lanes to find her cutting teammates.

Earlier this summer, Macy announced she would be transferring across the 5th Region to Bardstown.

The Lady Tigers were 20-7 a year ago but return senior Jaileyah Cotton. Cotton averaged 21.4 points and 7.2 rebounds a game and is expected to combine with Macy to create one of the state’s top-scoring duos.

Macy’s recruitment will turn into one of the state’s biggest storylines in girls basketball. If she continues to improve at the rate she is, she could be destined to become another McDonald’s All-American for the state of Kentucky.

While Kentucky has had success in recent years in recruiting the eastern portion of the state, the rest of the commonwealth has been vulnerable at times.

In fact, the program has not gotten a commitment from the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year since Mikayla Epps in 2013. Since that point, players have left the state to play at Tennessee, Indiana, and two to Oregon.

Will Kyra Elzy be able to keep one of the state’s top recruits in blue and white? She will have four years to create a plan to do so.
