Soccer school, am I right?

The Kentucky men’s soccer program moved up two spots to No. 6 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches rankings, which were released on Tuesday. The Wildcats are off to a 2-0-0 start in the 2022 season, with a 2-0 win over the University of Illinois Chicago and a 1-0 victory against Seattle. Kentucky’s next match is this Friday, Sept. 2 against Belmont before hosting in-state rival Louisville (receiving votes) on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Kentucky men’s soccer is now part of the Sun Belt Conference after leaving Conference USA following the conclusion of last season.

Now in his 10th season as the Kentucky head coach, Johan Cedergren could have one of his best groups during his time in Lexington. The three-time Conference USA Coach of the Year took the Wildcats to a second consecutive NCAA Championship Sweet 16 in 2021 and won the second C-USA Tournament title in program history. UK posted an overall record of 15-2-4 (3-1-4 in C-USA).

Kentucky finished 2021 with a national ranking of No. 11. That team featured three All-C-USA First Team players, one Second Team member, three more on the Third Team, and two on the All-Freshman team. Goalkeeper Jan Hoffelner earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors and was also named a First Team All-American. Of those 10 Wildcats, five returned for the 2022 season, not including Hoffelner.

Check out the rest of the rankings below. There was a ton of Week 1 movement.
