Kentucky came into today’s game with an opportunity to build momentum from the Missouri win against a short-handed Vanderbilt team with zero SEC wins. Instead, the Commodores lead the Cats 7-6 at halftime. The game is even uglier than the score indicates.
We’ll start with the few good things that have happened. Mark Ruffolo hit two field goals, a 47-yarder and a 27-yarder. Unfortunately, he missed one too. Kentucky is +2 in turnovers. Carrington Valentine scooped up a fumble on Vanderbilt’s opening drive and Keidron Smith picked off a Mike Wright pass in the end zone. The Cats have also been inside the 30-yard line three times but only have six points to show for it against a defense that ranks dead last in the SEC, allowing its opponents 36.8 points per game. Not great, Bob!
Kentucky has only 147 yards on 30 plays and six first downs so far. Vanderbilt has 201 yards on 27 plays, including a 59-yard touchdown run by Wright. See more stats below, if you dare.
