Vanderbilt currently owns rare winning streak in series with Kentucky
Kentucky and Vanderbilt have been meeting on the hardwood for a long time. The Wildcats currently own a 155-49 series lead. On Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium, the Wildcats and Commodores will meet for 205th time. The current situation in this series is not something we have seen often.
After beating Kentucky twice in nine days last March, Jerry Stackhouse earned his first two head-to-head wins against John Calipari and gave Vandy a winning streak in this series. That simply has not happened much.
Vanderbilt has only won multiple games a row in this series a handful of times.
- 1916-19: Vanderbilt won 3 in a row
- 1963-64: Vanderbilt won 2 in a row
- 1965: Vanderbilt won both meetings
- 1967: Vanderbilt won both meetings
- 1969-70: Vanderbilt won 2 in a row
- 1973-74: Vanderbilt won 4 in a row
- 1989-90: Vanderbilt won 3 in a row
- 2006-07: Vanderbilt won 4 in a row
- 2023: Vanderbilt won 2 in a row
These two SEC programs have been facing each other on the basketball floor for a very long time. Vandy has only won three games or more in a row in this series four times. The Commodores have never beaten Kentucky more than four times in a row.
Kentucky will be looking to prevent something that hasn’t happened very often on Tuesday night in Nashville.

Calipari enters this year’s two-game series against Vanderbilt with a 24-6 record against the Commodores at Kentucky. Under the Hall of Fame head coach, UK has swept Vandy nine times. The Wildcats really need to get that number up to 10 after a bad week in the Bluegrass.
