Vandy RB transfer Ray Davis meets with Kentucky staff as commitment looms
With a decision “coming soon” for Vanderbilt running back transfer Re’Mahn “Ray” Davis, Kentucky is looking to close on a commitment.
Head coach Mark Stoops and new running backs coach Jay Boulware met with the veteran playmaker on Monday, just days before his visit to Lexington and anticipated announcement.
“Family,” Davis said of the Kentucky coaching staff.
Kentucky is considered the overwhelming favorite to land Davis’ commitment, which is expected this week. The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back has a visit scheduled to Lexington this weekend.
The former Vanderbilt standout officially entered the transfer portal on Monday, Dec. 5, where he immediately picked up an offer from the Wildcats. Since then, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Missouri, and California have all reached out with scholarships.

Davis is considered the No. 57 overall player in the On3 Transfer Portal Player Rankings and the fifth-highest-rated running back.
The former Commodore was one of four SEC running backs in 2022 to register over 1,000 rushing yards (1,042) while also tacking on five touchdowns on the ground. He also added 169 receiving yards and three scores through the air. Davis spent the first two years of his college career at Temple before transferring to Vanderbilt in 2021. He only played three games as a junior though before suffering a season-ending knee injury, paving way for two years of college eligibility at his next stop.
Will that next stop be Lexington? All signs are pointing to that possibility becoming reality sooner rather than later.
