The wait is finally over. On Monday at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility, we found out who would be taking the interim position as Kentucky’s offensive play-caller against Iowa in the Music City Bowl.

Once again, the Big Dog will be holding the play call sheet.

Just like in the Gator Bowl following the 2020 season, Mark Stoops will turn to long-time assistant coach Vince Marrow to run the offense in the postseason. The recruiting coordinator has confirmed that he will handle the play-calling on New Year’s Eve.

“I’m calling the plays,” Marrow told the media on Monday afternoon.

The last time Kentucky turned to Marrow, things went very well. Against NC State in the Gator Bowl, Kentucky rushed for 288 yards, posted 5.6 yards per play on 68 snaps, and scored 23 points in a one-possession win in Jacksonville against a solid NC State defense.

Kentucky is hopeful that similar results will come at Nissan Stadium against Iowa. However, this will be a team effort from the coaching staff.

“The greatest thing about our offense is that we got Eddie Gran still who was in here so you can always go to the archives,” said Marrow.

“Verb [Andrew Verboys], Dan Hebert, Drake Jackson, of course, C.J. [Conrad]. Josh Estes-Waugh is coaching the quarterbacks and Mark Perry is coaching the running backs. The greatest thing about when you got a big organization is them guys I trust. Then Woody [Scott Woodward] is a guy with experience in the passing game. Woody is doing a really good job putting together a passing game.”

Marrow will not be alone in building a game plan. Kentucky has a tall task facing them getting prepared to face a top-five Iowa defense in Nashville, but there is a plan in Lexington.

“We will score points,” said Marrow.
