Vince Marrow Offers California Offensive Tackle on Signing Day Eve

A new scholarship offer is adding another strange twist to Kentucky’s football recruiting efforts with less than eight hours until National Signing Day.
Tuesday afternoon offensive tackle Jackson Brown announced on Twitter a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky. Vince Marrow quickly Retweeted the message.
Brown is not from Kentucky’s usual recruiting stomping grounds. Hailing from Danville, California, he committed to the Cal Golden Bears in August. He officially visited Cincinnati last weekend. A 6-foot-6, 295 pound three-star prospect, 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 52 offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class.
Offer a Message to Goodwin?
To be candid, I cannot remember a time when Kentucky publicly extended a scholarship offer less than 24 hours away from National Signing Day. Vince Marrow is obviously sending a message, but it’s unclear what that message is and who it is directed to.

The knee-jerk reaction is to assume that this is a backup plan if Kiyaunta Goodwin decides to take his talents elsewhere. However, landing Brown this late in the game is probably not a realistic option. Could this just be Vince’s way of telling Goodwin’s camp that UK still has options?
Could the offer be completely unrelated to Kiyaunta? Yes. Cincinnati is trying to poach Alex Afari from Kentucky’s signing class. This could be a shot at the Bearcats as they try to flip the Cal commit.
What is abundantly clear: college football recruiting is a wild and crazy business, especially on National Signing Day eve. What a sport.
