Clemson, Oregon, & Kentucky Battle for the #1 Player in Kentucky | Martels Carter Talks Recruitment

Vince Marrow cleaned up on the recruiting trail during the 2024 cycle. Now the Kentucky associate head coach is receiving his flowers for a job well done.

Following National Signing Day, 247 Sports ranked the top 10 college football recruiters. Marrow comes in at No. 10. This year’s class might be his most impressive haul since he arrived in Lexington.

“If you look at Kentucky’s football history, there’s not many assistant coaches who have ever been credited with landing five four-stars in a single cycle. That’s what Vince Marrow’s been able to do in this 2024 class,” Brad Crawford said on CBS Sports HQ. “His expertise is in Ohio, a state that’s become a hotbed of sorts for the Wildcats. Right now he is Mark Stoops’ top assistant coach.”

Marrow’s in good company. Jason Taylor, the Hall of Fame pass rusher, is now an assistant making moves for Mario Cristobal at Miami. Georgia assistant Fran Brown is the top-ranked recruiter on the list and he parlayed that success into a job as Syracuse’s head football coach. Every assistant on the list helped compile a Top 10 class, except Marrow.

“His biggest strength is he’s one of the SEC’s longest-tenured assistants, having been at Kentucky since 2013. And not only is he Mark Stoops’ most vital recruiter, but he’s a huge part of that physical mentality at the line of scrimmage that Kentucky’s been able to do these last few years. There’s a couple 8-win, 10-win seasons. Vince Marrow has made Ohio his hot recruiting ground there and he’s signed a handful of four-star guys and no Kentucky assistant has ever been able to do that,” said Crawford.

Players Vince Marrow Signed in 2024

Brian Robinson | 4-Star | No. 127 | No. 5 OH
Terhyon Nichols | 4-Star | No. 208 | No. 11 OH
Jerod Smith | 4-Star | No. 224 | No. 1 KY
Jacob Smith | 4-Star | No. 257 | No. 2 KY
Cutter Boley | 4-Star | No. 391 | No. 25 QB
Aba Selm | 3-Star | No. 474 | No. 4 KY
Hayes Johnson | 3-Star IOL | No. 11 KY
Marc Nave | 3-Star IOL | No. 25 OH
Willie Rodriguez | 3-Star TE | No. 6 KY

That does not include the transfers, like RB Chip Trayanum, who were recruited by the Big Dog to Kentucky. Marrow is already off to a hot start in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

He secured a commitment from top 300 WR Quintin Simmons while Mark Stoops was still conducting his offensive coordinator search. The Wildcats are also primed to secure a commitment from Martels Carter, the Blue Chip safety who’s the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky.
