Vince Marrow is never shy when it comes to dealing with Twitter beef, and the Big Dog was never going to back down from a little spat with a former Florida Gator.

During a radio appearance on 1010 XL, Shane Matthews, who was the starting quarterback at Florida under then-head coach Steve Spurrier from 1990-92, decided to take some shots at the Kentucky Football offense.

“Kentucky is getting all this love, somehow. Seems like they get all this love every year,” Matthew said on the Jacksonville, FL-based radio show. “Until they can complete a forward pass, I have a hard time looking at Kentucky as a team that can beat us. But we’ve had trouble there the last couple of times.”

KSR’s Matt Jones made sure that Marrow saw the tweet, and as you might have guessed, this didn’t exactly sit right with the Big Dog.

“Well let’s see buddy this isn’t the old Kentucky teams u used to play just asked Coach Spurrier about that. Go Big Blue .” Vince Marrow responded.

Those Kentucky teams of old, admittedly, did receive a fair share of blowout losses at the hands of Florida.

UK infamously lost 31 consecutive games against the Gators before breaking the streak in 2018. Spurrier won all 12 of his matchups against Kentucky while serving as head coach, three of them with Matthews at quarterback, but Marrow made sure to remind everyone of how the tides turned once Spurrier’s career began to wind down at South Carolina–Kentucky won the final two games against South Carolina with Spurrier as head coach. The ‘Cats have continued to dominate that matchup, winning six of the last seven meetings against the Gamecocks.

Under offensive coordinator Liam Coen’s new offense, Kentucky is expected to throw the ball more than they ever have under head coach Mark Stoops. After naming Penn State transfer Will Levis as the starting quarterback last week, UK has made it clear that throwing the ball will be a much larger priority moving forward.

Kentucky will play host to No. 13 Florida on Oct. 2 in what will be the first of three straight ranked opponents for the ‘Cats. Kentucky has to face No. 16 LSU and No. 5 Georgia in the two weeks following the Gators. A win or loss against Florida could set the table for the rest of the schedule.

But come Oct. 2, something tells me more than a few forward passes will be completed…
