Vince Marrow says 'it's good to have people that want you,' but 'for me, I'm here'
Has Vince Marrow turned down Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels? Well, maybe? Kinda. But did he actually? It’s a little foggy, honestly.
Kentucky’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator was offered by the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach this past weekend with FootballScoop reporting Belichick “just might be successful” in his pursuit of Marrow on Saturday.
In the days since? Silence. No public denials or leveraging for more money, no signs of UNC gaining traction. You’ve seen the Wildcats add commitments and Marrow being in on those recruitments while the dominoes are starting to fall for the Tar Heels, as well. Could no news be good news?
You be the judge of that with Marrow speaking publicly for the first time since those talks over the weekend. In Louisville for the Paul Hornung Award ceremony honoring Kentucky signee Montavin Quisenberry, the prized assistant sat down with Larry Vaught to share where things stood with North Carolina as he juggled portal recruiting efforts for Kentucky.
In short, he says he can’t control speculation about his job status and outside interest while also confirming he has a relationship with Bill Belichick and shares an agent with the legendary head coach. That being said, he’s happy in Lexington and has a chip on his shoulder to bring the football program back to life — especially with how the season ended against Kentucky’s in-state rival.

“You can’t control when your name gets thrown out. I just saw a brand name get thrown out for Wake Forest. I do know Coach Belichick. Our agents represent both of us, and I’ll just leave it at that,” he said. “I’m very happy here. With that taste in my mouth of us losing to (Louisville) where we are in the city right now, that didn’t go well over with me.
“It’s a good rivalry because you got Jeff (Brohm) back now. Jeff has made it very, very competitive again.”
He appreciates that he’s a wanted commodity, but as things stand, he’s at Kentucky and will continue to represent Kentucky to the best of his ability.
“(My dad) told me, ‘It’s good to have options.’ Good to have people that want you, whether it’s somebody as a girl that wants you or whether it’s a job that wants you,” Marrow said. “For me, I’m here. I’m recruiting as hard as I can to get this thing back right.
“As I said I can’t control what others say, but for me, I’m here.”
Here for how long? That’s not totally clear — but he’ll be happy here however long that is.
