Vince Marrow has never been one to mince his words. That’s even more true when it comes to Kentucky’s in-state rival, the Louisville Cardinals. And when you’ve been part of a program that’s beaten UL five times in a row on the gridiron, it makes trash talk that much easier to doll out.

On Thursday, the Kentucky football associate head coach was letting his thoughts fly about the former staff at Louisville. New head coach Jeff Brohm has come in and revitalized the Cardinals, leading them to a 10-3 record in his first season in charge. Kentucky still beat UL this year, but there is clearly a mutual level of respect between Marrow and the new Cards’ staff.

Instead, Marrow took some shots at Scott Satterfield and the rest of the previous staff at Louisville. While speaking at the Paul Hornung Award ceremony in Louisville, which honored Kentucky commit Cutter Boley as the state’s top high school player, Marrow made sure to slip in some jabs.

Ya’ll better do whatever ya’ll can to keep Jeff (Brohm) here because the last guy here, I really didn’t work that hard recruiting,Marrow joked. “It was just very easy to go against that last staff. Jeff being here, we know we’ve got to roll up our sleeves and go to work.

Marrow said all of this with a smile on his face, but there’s plenty of truth to his words. During Satterfield’s four-year tenure at Louisville (2019-22), the Cardinals landed just one of the state’s top 10 players across the four recruiting cycles he was head coach. Meanwhile, Kentucky brought in 17 of them.

That trend has already begun to change under Brohm. In the 2023 and 2024 classes, Louisville signed three of the state’s top 10 players while Kentucky signed nine. But Marrow still couldn’t help but take a small shot at Brohm, even if he sprinkled some praise in there along the way.

“I think if (Jeff) would have been here a little earlier at Louisville, he would have probably made it harder (to land Cutter),” Marrow said. “Because Jeff is a good quarterback coach, but I think we got a better one in Liam Coen.”

Never change, Big Dog.
