VJ Edgecombe to Officially Visit Kentucky this weekend
The final weekend of October is shaping up to be a big one for the Kentucky basketball program. Another five-star talent, VJ Edgecombe, has scheduled an official visit to Lexington.
First reported by 247 Sports’ Travis Branham, Edgecombe is a Five-Star Plus talent, ranked as the No. 5 overall player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from New York is the No. 2 player at his position in the 2024 recruiting class.
Edgecombe will be making his official visit to Kentucky alongside another top priority for the Wildcats. Jayden Quaintance, a 6-foot-10 Five-Star Plus center, is set to begin his official visit to Lexington on Friday. The Cleveland native is ranked as the No. 6 player in the nation, according to On3.
John Calipari’s recruiting efforts tailed off for a few years. After inking one of his best classes to date, it looks like he’s on his way to recreating that magic in the 2024 recruiting class.

“Kentucky is still Kentucky,” Coach Cal said Wednesday at Kentucky basketball media day. “Recruiting in the 24 class? Really good. The 25 class? Maybe better.”
VJ Edgecombe Scouting Report
From On3 National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw: “When watching VJ Edgecombe, it’s the feel for the game that really pops. He never seems to force any of the action, making the right play, the right pass, the right read. Edgecombe is an explosive athlete, which helps him in transition as well as on the defensive end.
“He is a good shooter and forms a good base with consistent release. The jumper can be somewhat of a set shot, and he is more comfortable off the catch than shooting (from three) off the bounce. He is very instinctive on the defensive end, shooting the passing lanes aggressively. He moves his feet well on defense, guarding on the ball. He has good length and quick hands. Good vision and processes the game well. He gets a lot done in an efficient manner, you like that moving forward—lots of natural instincts. Not afraid of the moment. Comfortable on the ball as a secondary initiator type. NIBC and New York State Player of the Year.”
