Washington is Co-SEC Freshman of the Week, his third time winning the award
Kentucky’s TyTy Washington is now a three-time winner of the SEC’s Freshman of the Week award.
Today, the league announced Washington won the award for a second straight week; although, this time he shares the honor with Auburn forward Jabari Smith. Smith had 16 points in the Tigers’ win over LSU, his only qualifying game for this round of the weekly award.
Washington, on the other hand, had two nice performances on his Freshman of the Week resume. First, he scored 14 points with six rebounds and two assists in his first-ever SEC contest, the win over Mizzou last Wednesday. Two days later, he gave Tubby Smith’s High Point a 15-point performance with nine rebounds. If my math checks out, Washington averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 assists, and four rebounds in the two-game span for Kentucky.
Auburn’s Kessler is SEC Player of the Week
Taking home the SEC’s Player of the Week award is Auburn big man Walker Kessler. The transfer from UNC had the second triple-double in Auburn history with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 11 blocks in the LSU win.
