WATCH: 2020-21 season highlights from Kentucky WBB commit Cassidy Rowe

Cassidy Rowe has been committed to the Kentucky Wildcats since she was a freshman in high school, but she is still another year away from joining the Wildcats.

A 5-foot-6 point guard from Shelby Valley High School, Rowe is a member of the class of 2022 and chose the ‘Cats over her favorite school growing up, the Louisville Cardinals. She caught the eye of Matthew Mitchell, who was the head coach of Kentucky Women’s Basketball up until last fall, early in her basketball development and he wasted little time snatching her up. Rowe committed to Kentucky during her first year of high school and has not backed off that decision since.

After shining in seventh and eighth grade against varsity-level competition, ACL tears in both knees locked her away from the public eye for her the majority of her freshman and sophomore years. Entering the 2020-21 season, Rowe was finally feeling healthy, that was until COVID-19 infiltrated the team’s locker room and she later cracked her rib, effectively killing Shelby Valley’s momentum after a solid start to the season. But in the time she was on the floor, it was easy to understand why Rowe was such a must-get prospect for Coach Mitchell and why new head coach Kyra Elzy has elected to keep her on board.

Rowe recently finished up her junior season of high school basketball and will head into her final year with big expectations and likely a target on her back. She expects to be 100 percent by the time basketball season rolls around in the fall.

When it comes to playing the modern point guard position, Rowe checks the biggest boxes: she’s an elite outside shooter (with range that extends 3-4 feet behind the line) who can control the tempo of the offense with ease while making everyone around her better.
