Chris Oats continues to work hard on his road to recovery from a stroke he suffered in May 2020. The former Kentucky linebacker recently surpassed another major milestone on that path, which he posted to his Twitter account on Thursday night.

Oats came to Kentucky as a four-star recruit out of Winton Woods High School (OH) from the class of 2018. Nicknamed “Duece Duece”, the Cincinnati, OH native played two seasons with the ‘Cats in 2018 and 2019, appearing in 25 games while recording 73 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Oats sat out the 2020 and 2021 seasons following his medical incident in May 2020.

His Kentucky teammates have been there every step of the way, though. Wildcat tight end Keaton Upshaw helped spearhead a fundraising effort to help pay for the exorbitant medical costs and purchase a handicap accessible minivan that can transport Oats to and from rehab. Oats was able to travel with the team for most of the home games this fall and was on the sideline for the Citrus Bowl win this past January.

You can help Oats and his family throughout his rehabilitation journey by donating to their GoFundMe at 22OatsStrong.org.
