WATCH: Dick Vitale announces he's completed cancer treatment
Dickie V just won the biggest championship of them all.
On Thursday, legendary ESPN sportscaster Dick Vitale announced that he has “zero cancer currently” and that his final rounds of chemotherapy have been completed. The 82-year-old had been battling lymphoma and melanoma since 2021. Vitale was cleared to “ring the bell” after the completion of his cancer treatment.
“It was RING THE BELL TIME! Yes it was a tough 7 months but it was super hearing Dr. Brown say that I have zero cancer currently,” Vitale wrote in a tweet. “I was inspired daily by the famous words of my late buddy Jimmy V ‘Don’t Give up DON’T EVER GIVE UP!'”

Just last month, shortly before Selection Sunday, Vitale said his PET scans showed that there was no cancer in his body. A couple of days later, he met up with Kentucky head coach John Calipari during the SEC Tournament in Tampa, FL.
Back in January, Vitale announced he would be forced to miss the remainder of the 2021-22 college basketball season after undergoing surgery to solve his Dysplasia and ulcerated lesions of the vocal cords, which made it difficult for him to speak. He was previously cleared to call games in November following his cancer treatment, his 43rd year at ESPN.
But none of that ever kept him from fighting. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Dickie V!
