WATCH: Highlights, interviews from Kentucky WBB's SEC title victory
Tonight, we celebrate like it’s 1982.
For the first time in 40 years, Kentucky Women’s Basketball has been crowned the SEC Tournament champions. The Wildcats won four games in four days, culminating with a thrilling 64-62 upset over No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday thanks to a Dre’Una Edwards game-winning 3-pointer with under five seconds left in regulation. The junior forward finished with a game-high 27 points to go along with her nine rebounds. All-American guard Rhyne Howard was named the tournament MVP as both she and Edwards were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Kentucky has now won 10 consecutive games as the team’s NCAA Tournament stock continues to rise. ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme said shortly after UK’s win that a seven-seed is now a realistic possibility for March Madness. Oh, how things have changed in just a few weeks’ time…
