On Friday night, Kentucky Women’s Basketball pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season and easily the biggest win of the year for the Wildcats. UK, ranked as a seven-seed in the 2022 SEC Tournament, embarrassed the two-seeded LSU Tigers by a final score of 78-63. The game was never particularly close, either, with Kentucky establishing a 20-point halftime lead before cruising down the stretch.
Rhyne Howard was her usual All-American self, tying her season-high with 32 points on 11-18 shooting, including an elite mark of 6-8 from deep. Treasure Hunt and Dre’Una Edwards both dropped in 13 points apiece as Kentucky shot 44.6 percent as a team. It was arguably the first major head coaching victory in Kyra Elzy’s still young career.

With the win, Kentucky moves on to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament, where it will match up against the three-seeded Tennessee Volunteers. It will be a rematch of the Jan. 16 meeting, in which UT ran away with an easy 84-58 victory down in Knoxville. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPNU.
