Your University of Kentucky Wildcats/United States of America moved to 2-0 at GLOBL Jam with a win over the home team Canucks on the second day of play in Toronto. After the game, John Calipari took questions about his team’s victory and spot in Sunday’s gold medal game.

Overall, he was excited about the ‘Cats for the second night in a row.

“You know, the thing that we have, we have really good basketball players,” said Calipari in his postgame remarks. “They’re basketball players. And so you got five guys at all times on the floor that can pass and shoot and drive and make decisions. It’s my old way of playing, which is give them space and space the court and fly, which is probably most of my career, 90% of my career, coaching that way. But you got to have a bunch of guys that can play basketball.”

From there, Calipari gave brief comments on each player, from Reed Sheppard to Joey Hart. He also noted the lineup variations when his two seven-footers return from injury later in the summer.

“The question is, we got to seven-footers, you know, and they’re both good. They’re both different.”

In Toronto, Kentucky will take Friday off for some special fun, and then it’s back on the court Saturday to play Basketball Africa League Select in the last game of pool play. Kentucky and BAL Select played a scrimmage earlier in the week, but Calipari anticipates a new challenge after a conversation with BAL Select’s head coach.

“Africa told me today, I talked to the coach, he said, ‘We got two more coming, two new guys.’ They said they had one yesterday night that came, because I’m like, how did you play Germany that good? And he said, ‘Well we got one new guy and I got two more coming for you.’ So tomorrow, I guess he gets two more guys, so it may not be the same team we had our scrimmage or our friendly with.”
