WATCH: Kentucky Basketball is not just a game; it means everything to us

As we get ready to watch our Kentucky Wildcats begin NCAA Tournament play, I am reminded of something my dad would say semi-jokingly around the house, “Kentucky Basketball is bigger than life itself.”
That became the framework for the video essay below, where I try to put into words what this “game” means to diehard Kentucky fans everywhere.
In the college basketball world, this fanbase cares more than any other per capita. But why do we care so much? Why do the losses hurt so bad and the wins feel so good?
If our team wins, no one gives us a promotion or a raise. We don’t get extra years added onto our life.

If we lose, it should be fine.
To people who aren’t into it like we are, it probably seems kind of crazy.
Whether you’re so excited, that you’re driving people nuts or you’re so sad that people want to help, someone is likely going to tell you, “It’s only a game.”
And they would be wrong.
