WATCH: Kentucky Defense, Brock Vandagriff Preview Ole Miss Matchup
Kentucky is hitting the road for the first time this season. Saturday’s game against fifth-ranked Ole Miss will not be Brock Vandagriff’s first SEC road trip. He’s well aware of what it’s like to be in the middle of enemy territory, just not as the starting quarterback.
“The crowd noise is the biggest part of it, the atmosphere. But I’ve been a part of some of those big games, but never taken the snaps, things of that sort. Coach Stoops and Coach Hamdan have done a great job trying as much as they can to replicate that crowd noise. The speakers and stuff we got out there are pretty loud,” said the Kentucky starter.
“Just executing the offense is the main thing. The quarterback needs to be the most prepared person out there because there’s going to be questions. You’re not going to be able to tell the O-line ‘run up there,’ stuff like that. Just making sure that you’re ready to adapt.”
The Kentucky defense is having to adapt to a different speed of play. Ole Miss likes to go fast. Simulating that speed in practice actually might be more challenging than simulating the crowd noise. Fortunately, like Brock, this isn’t something they haven’t seen before in previous years.
