The Kentucky defense is preparing to go toe-to-toe with Florida’s high octane rushing attack in Gainesville. The Wildcats limited Miami to 111 rushing yards in week one, but it was not up to Kentucky’s standards.

“It was good. We still got some stuff to fix,” said linebacker Jacquez Jones. “We’re not perfect. I feel like it was good but we can always be better.”

Defensive coordinator Brad White had two plays in particular that hurt Kentucky in the season-opener. Those mistakes are correctable, the byproduct of first game rust.

“It’s about consistency,” said White. “At times I thought we were really stout against the run last week… We just gotta be able to execute when we’re tired. But we’ll get it.”

One player on the defensive line made the most in his debut. True freshman Deone Walker tallied four tackles in his first college football game. Those early snaps gave the Detroit native a ton of confidence entering The Swamp.

“I really just learned that if I go North, nobody can stop me,” said Walker. “I gotta cool down and let the game slow down for me.”
