WATCH: Kentucky Football Coordinators, Seniors Preview Louisville Game
It’s finally here, Governor’s Cup week. The regular season finale is upon us. Before Kentucky hosts Louisville at Kroger Field, a few Wildcats fielded questions from the media.
Offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello is preparing for an aggressive Louisville defense. The Cards rank first nationally in sacks (41) and 11th in tackles for loss (81). It will not be the first time Will Levis has faced an opponent that thrives by rolling out exotic pressure packages.
“Especially up front, our offensive line throughout the season, the looks we’ve seen as a group and as a unit, it prepares them to go out there and play reactionary,” said the Kentucky quarterback. “It’s easy when it looks exactly like you practice it. But there’s always things you don’t expect to see in certain situations, just like there was against Georgia last week. You can tell they’ve gotten so much better throughout the year and if they’re able to handle that (Georgia) front, they can handle anybody.”

Jordan Wright and J.J. Weaver will be tasked to contain Malik Cunningham, a mobile quarterback the Cards believe will be healthy enough to play. Not their first rendezvous with the Louisville quarterback, Kentucky’s edge rushers know what to expect from the heart and soul of Louisville’s offense. After all, they did watch him play in-person earlier this season during the Wildcats’ bye week.
“Malik’s a big part of their team,” said Weaver. “I think he will play. We just gotta get after Malik. He’s a great quarterback, he uses his legs a lot. We gotta spy him a lot. He can scramble up the pocket, down the pocket. We gotta be a great spy on him.”
