WATCH: Kentucky's Lamont Butler is one of the best defensive guards in the nation
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope has already added some impressive defenders to his debut roster for 2024-25. One of them is San Diego State transfer Lamont Butler.
Butler averaged 9.3 points, three assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Aztecs in 2023-24. A four-year player at SDSU, the 6-foot-2 guard earned 102 total starts and was a crucial piece in the team’s run to the national championship game in 2023. He hit the buzzer-beater against Florida Atlantic in the Final Four to advance to the title matchup against UConn.
But it’s his defense that should have the Big Blue Nation excited. Butler’s steal rate was among the best in the country last season, per KenPom, and he’ll have no issue using his 205-pound frame to his advantage in the SEC.
