“We didn’t come this far, just to come this far.”

It’s only been a week since Kentucky Women’s Basketball won its first Southeastern Conference Tournament championship in 40 years. But Dre’Una Edwards’ “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” is still replaying over and over again in my head. The Wildcats plowed through the SEC tourney last weekend, winning four games in four days, including victories over ranked opponents LSU and Tennessee before taking down No. 1 South Carolina in the title bout.

For a team that was widely considered dead in the water just a month ago, the resurrection has been historic. Kentucky went from a 9-11 overall record to rattling off 10 consecutive wins en route to the first conference championship since 1982. Head coach Kyra Elzy oversaw an improbable turnaround and has her squad playing its best basketball at the exact right time. It was Kentucky’s ability to overcome seemingly endless adversity that’s made this recent run extra special.

The forever-talented folks over KY Wildcats TV gave us another goosebump-inducing recap video of Kentucky’s upset victory over South Carolina.

Hopefully, Kentucky can continue to ride that magic to another long run.
