Mark Pope took time out of his busy schedule to take questions from the media at a summer press conference in Lexington on Tuesday. Pope even brought cookies for his guests at his first on-campus Q&A. It may be the most photographed plate of cookies in Kentucky Basketball history, proving how easily the UK media room can be bought.
Fun fact: KSR’s own Jacob Polacheck was the first person in the Mark Pope era to eat a press conference cookie. If things go well for Pope, that may be something Jacob can brag about over on KSBoard in fifteen years.
Another fun story from Pope’s Tuesday press conference: A ringing cell phone interrupted the conversation, a big no-no in that setting. However, the ringing phone belonged to Pope, who looked down at the screen and said, “This is Mitch (Barnhart). Should I get it right now?” He did and offered to put his boss on speakerphone in front of the crowded room.

After the party, it’s the after-party. We loved getting the Rapid Reaction band back together in the summer.
