WATCH: Mark Stoops Mum on Kentucky Quarterback Situation
Ahead of the tenth game of the Kentucky football season, there is uncertainty around the quarterback position.
Brock Vandagriff started in every game this season. The Georgia transfer was pulled in the second half of the loss to Auburn. After seeing Gavin Wimsatt in action, the Rutgers transfer was taken out of the Tennessee game plan. That plan changed when Vandagriff suffered a head injury in the second half of the loss in Knoxville.
Since Saturday’s game against Murray State is not an SEC contest, there is not a mandated availability report. Mark Stoops was asked if he was willing and able to share any injury updates, specifically regarding Vandagriff and WR Barion Brown, who also left the Tennessee game with a rib injury.
“Not right now. I’ll update you later in the week. I always try to be as forthcoming as I can. It’s just there’s a lot going on. For me to just get into all of the little nuances of that just doesn’t make sense right now, so we’ll see how the week goes,” he said.
There’s no need for Stoops to dive into the details as Vandagriff works his way through concussion protocol, which is wildly unpredictable. Based on Stoops’ past, he will not share who is the starter until pregame warmups, but KSR noted last week that Cutter Boley received a significant amount of reps with the ones in practice and could earn his first career start.
“We have confidence in both of those guys (Wimsatt and Boley). We’ll see how the week progresses,” said Stoops.
UK Secondary Getting Healthier
“We’ll be better,” Stoops added. “Certainly, some guys will be better than they’ve been. Some others we’ll still be evaluating.”

Tennessee QB dealing with concussion ahead of Georgia game
The Kentucky head coach did not dive into too many specifics, but he believes this will be the closest the cornerback room has been to 100% healthy in a long time. It sounds like DJ Waller should be good to go after missing the Tennessee game. Maxwell Hairston has been sidelined for five games and is on track to return this Saturday.
“He’s been working his way into it, obviously, non-contact and off to the side. Last week, was working his way in with no contact,” said the Kentucky head coach.
“He’s a guy with so many snaps under his belt and he has been working on running, conditioning, footwork, he’s been doing that. Then last week, doing football drills, so hopefully he can be near or close to 100%.”
