Mark Stoops returned to his Monday routine this week with a press conference to preview the week ahead. He opened up the conversation with a brief catch-up from the bye week and a nod to Kentucky’s Week 7 opponent, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

“It’s good to get back here after getting a couple of days off, giving our players some time to heal up, get their minds right, get their bodies right, and also get some work done this past week,” Stoops said. “Coming into this press conference, I don’t have to worry about selling Vanderbilt anymore. You know how good they are and how good Clark Lea has done.”

Of course, Stoops was referring to Vandy’s upset of No. 1 Alabama over the weekend when his Wildcats had Saturday off. Stoops offered his congratulations and complimented the Vandy football program for the historic win before getting down to business about Kentucky in his Week 7 preview.

Topics from the 25-minute conversation include:

  • The latest on Chip Trayanum and Max Hairston, among others
  • A call to Big Blue Nation to come strong on Saturday
  • Scouting Vanderbilt’s offense and Diego Pavia
  • Coming out of a bye weekend
  • Avoiding 3rd-and-long
  • The impact of losing this game two years ago, if any
