WATCH: Mark Stoops Recaps Southern Miss, Previews South Carolina
The Kentucky season opener did not go according to plan. Despite multiple severe weather delays, Mark Stoops was grateful for the support of the Big Blue Nation and proud of the way his team performed when they finally were able to take the field.
“I’m proud of our team and the way we handled things. We played relatively clean and played hard,” Stoops said during his Labor Day press conference.
He added, “One thing about that game is, I thought we did some really good things, but there are a ton of mistakes and so many things we can improve on, and that’s exciting for us to get back to work. Really that’s our focus, our daily habits. What are we going to do? What are we going to sacrifice to improve to get better today?”
Following the late-night 31-0 win against Southern Miss, Kentucky jumps right into its SEC schedule. The Wildcats will get the 3:30 pm timeslot for the first ever SEC on ABC game. Even though South Carolina struggled against Old Dominion, Kentucky must bring its A-game to take down a foe who has recorded back-to-back wins over the Wildcats.

“South Carolina is a team that we always seem to have good games with through my many years here. It’s always a very good game, always evenly matched. We’re looking forward to that challenge,” he said.
Stoops talked about the specific challenges South Carolina is bringing to Lexington, specifically dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He also shared which players popped on tape for Kentucky that may not have stuck out in the box score, and much more.
