Watch: One-on-One with Kentucky RB Demie Sumo-Karngbaye
You may not be able to say his name correctly, but you need to learn it before the Wildcats kickoff the 2023 Kentucky football season at Kroger Field.
Demie Sumo-Karngbaye (pronounced DEHM-ee SUE-moh KARNG-bay) started his career at NC State. Like Devin Leary, this offseason he decided to make the move to Lexington. Like Leary, he’s a New Jersey native. DSK shared how their friendship played a big role in why he ultimately chose to transfer to Kentucky.
“Devin, that was the first reason I’d say (why I came to Kentucky),” Demie Sumo-Karngbaye told KSR.
Their chemistry is already evident in fall camp. During Monday’s practice, Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen dialed up an RPO. The run-option looked like the right read, but Leary had DSK waiting to catch a bubble screen for the pass-option. Leary threw the ball to his old friend who repaid him by getting a hard 5-6 yards.

“I’m glad that they do have a rapport that they do have chemistry already,” said Coen. “They have a friendship. It helps each other. When you’re a new kid coming into a program in this world we’re living in, when you come in with a teammate — two great kids that just want to help and play good football — it’s nice when you have somebody to kind of lean on and be with throughout that process.”
Whether No. 0 is lining up as a running back, wide receiver or return man in special teams, Demie Sumo-Karngbaye is a big play waiting to happen for the Kentucky Wildcats this fall.
