Playing against perennial powerhouse Mayfield in the Class 2A final at Kroger Field, Somerset surrendered the lead to the Cardinals by allowing 14 points in almost ten seconds. Leading 31-28, Mayfield tried to grind the game away on the ground. They were able to get the clock to 28 seconds before giving the ball back to Somerset on its on 14. What happened next was spectacular. With junior quarterback Kaiya Sheron leading the way, a 6'4" pocket passer who has an offer from UK, the Briar Jumpers quickly moved the ball down the field to the 35-yard line with three seconds to play. Their prayers were answered on the last-ditch effort in the form of a pass interference. https://twitter.com/brianwkyt/status/1203416422183063553 The penalty gave Somerset one more chance for a victory. Tate Madden shook free on the untimed down to catch Sheron's 20-yard game-winning touchdown pass https://twitter.com/brianwkyt/status/1203412886984577025 What a way to win.
