WATCH: Three Kentucky football walk-ons earn scholarships from Mark Stoops

by:Jack Pilgrim08/13/18

Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops made three walk-ons pretty happy this afternoon.

Senior receiver David Bouvier, senior kicker Miles Butler, and junior running back Zach Johnson have all earned scholarships for the upcoming season.

Check out the awesome moment at today's team meeting:

Stoops sent out this congratulatory tweet soon after: https://twitter.com/UKCoachStoops/status/1029162822150901760 Bouvier has a real chance to earn major playing time at slot receiver this season, with one source telling KSR the Lexington native was one of the hardest players to cover in practice last season. In early practices, Bouvier has been one of the most sure-handed receivers on the team, and he's also earning starting reps as the team's primary punt returner. All three earned their scholarships, but Bouvier will almost certainly have the biggest impact on the team this season. With Austin MacGinnis graduated, Miles Butler is competing with Chance Poore for the starting kicker job this season. He has made a solid impact over the years in spot situations, specifically when MacGinnis was bothered by injuries. As for Zach Johnson, the 5-foot-10 junior out of Cincinnati originally committed to Kentucky in 2016 as a preferred walk-on, choosing the Cats over Georgetown, Navy, and Army. He was a stud for Colerain High School, and now he has his college paid for this year. Congratulations to the newest scholarship Wildcats! [mobile_ad]
