WATCH: Two Former Wildcats Heave Hurried Full-Court Shots
A couple of college basketball players that used to wear Kentucky uniforms were in action Tuesday night. The ball was in the hands of a pair of former Wildcats with the clock winding down near halftime. It produced interesting results.
Out on the West Coast, Devin Askew is the point guard for Mark Fox’s Cal basketball team. The Golden Bears were trailing to UC-Davis with five seconds left before halftime. Askew was unaware of the time on the clock and hurried to heave the ball the length of the court. UC-Davis actually had enough time to corral the rebound and throw up a prayer of their own.
Askew actually led Cal in scoring with 19 points. He also had 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 turnovers, but the Golden Bears were upset in their season-opener, falling 75-65 to UC-Davis at home.

On the other end of the country, Bryce Hopkins made his debut with the Providence Friars. With seconds left on the clock in the first half, Hopkins secured a rebound then slung the ball to the other end of the court. Unlike Askew who received the ball off a dead ball, out-of-bounds pass, one can understand why Hopkins was so eager to launch the ball as quickly as possible. However, it’s still hilarious to see the ball nail the shot clock before it sounded to end the half.
Somehow not the worst heave from a former Cat! Bryce Hopkins REALLY let it rip. pic.twitter.com/JtkY2XBlig

In his first game with the Friars Bryce Hopkins led the team in minutes (36) and points (18), despite only shooting 3-of-10 from the field. Providence survived a close call against Rider. The visiting Broncs had a chance to win, securing a rebound with 10 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the line on the floor got in the way of scoring the go-ahead bucket.
College basketball is BACK.
