'We move it to move it.' Kenny Brooks emphasizes fast-paced style of play
Despite the size that Kenny Brooks has on his team, he’s also got a lot of speed.
At the Blue-White Preseason Event, and specifically during the scrimmage, one of the glaring things about the team was just how fast they played. With each and every trip down the floor, it seemed like Georgia Amoore was finding someone open and a shot was being put up in a hurry. Rarely did Kentucky need more than 10 or 15 seconds of the shot clock.
Following the scrimmage, Brooks told KSR about he has emphasized trying to move the ball and score as efficiently as possible.
“We move it to move it,” Brooks said. “Sometimes, we preach tempo, we preach spacing, we preach sharing the basketball, and we’re not there yet, but it’s a work in progress. I do like where they’re going. We didn’t really do a lot this summer, just because of the injuries, We wanted to kind of just introduce things slowly, but they picked it up. They haven’t been perfect, but their intent has been pretty much perfect.”

While playing fast, it’s important to make sure to not play sloppy, and that’s still a work in progress heading into the season.
“So, I like what they were doing,” Brooks noted. “They’re moving the basketball, they’re sharing it. We’ve got to watch our passes a little bit. And you know, obviously this is a very aggressive league that we’re about to get into, but I like the beginnings of what we’re doing right now.”
