We’ve got a bit of a break before the Signing Day fun picks back up, so how about some old school afternoon notes?
Jager Burton and Dekel Crowdus are signing at KSBar at 3 p.m.
So far, 16 players have signed with Kentucky with only two to go. At 3 p.m., Frederick Douglass stars Jager Burton and Dekel Crowdus will put pen to paper and make it official in a ceremony at KSBar. The event is open to the public, so come on down and congratulate the future Cats and say hi to Ryan Lemond, our intrepid reporter on the scene.
Stick around and enjoy our ridiculous Wingsday special (25 wings for $20), or make plans to come back for live trivia tonight starting at 7 p.m. We’ve also got a new special, “Working Women’s Wednesday,” featuring $12 bottles of wine and $5 cocktails. Don’t forget, each meal you buy between now and end of business Friday enters you into a drawing for 10-year Van Winkle bourbon. Something for everybody at KSBar and Grille today.
Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow will speak at 4 p.m.
After Burton and Crowdus make it official, Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow will hold their annual Signing Day press conference with reporters on Zoom. We’ll have a live stream up on the site and all the coverage you could dream of afterwards, so stay tuned to hear what Kentucky’s top dogs say about the signees, including the surprise additions of Devonte Ross and Georgia Tech linebacker Justice Dingle.

Anthony Davis is Sports Illustrated’s (daily) cover boy
I guess Sports Illustrated is doing daily covers now? Today’s features Anthony Davis, who is the subject of a great story by Rohan Nadkarni, which includes tidbits about his relationship with LeBron James and the impression Davis made on the late, great Kobe Bryant during summer workouts back in 2018.
Those summer sessions left an indelible impression on Bryant. He had never put much effort into recruiting big names to Los Angeles during his 20-year playing career, which ended in 2016. But not long after the minicamp, Kobe picked up the phone and called the godfather of his daughter Gianna—his former agent and current general manager of the Lakers, Rob Pelinka. “Hey, you know I don’t give you GM advice,” Bryant said. “But if you ever get a chance to get this guy, he is the avatar of what you want. His level of footwork, his dexterity, his mastery of the details of the game. Guys like this are generational players.”

Tyrese Maxey looked great in his NBA debut
While we’re talking NBA, how about a little love for Tyrese Maxey, who had eight points (4-6 FG) and three assists in his first preseason game with the Philadelphia 76ers last night. Maxey missed the first week of training camp after testing positive for COVID-19, so seeing him play well last night was extra satisfying.
