"We're very proud." -Matthew Mitchell
Matthew Mitchell was, in his words, “tickled to death” about the win over the Cardinals this afternoon. After a disappointing first half in which the Cats fell in a 16 point hole, Mitchell said all had to do with the hustle. “In the first half, everything they got was in transition, off an offensive board, or the free throw line. Those are all things that happen when you get out-hustled.”
The second half the Cats had more energy, with stellar performances from guards Thompson and O’Neill pacing Kentucky back offensively. On defense, Kentucky was more active, which Mitchell knows has to happen for the Cats to succeed. “We have to play like our hair’s on fire all the time. We aren’t gonna out-talent you, but we can disrupt you.”
When asked about Jeff Walz’s “we make it further than you in the tournament” barbs Mitchell was a class-act, simply saying, “I think Louisville has a great program and they’re well coached. I’m happy we got the win today.”
Kentucky improves to 8-1 on the year, while Louisville falls to 8-1.
