Former Kentucky Football great Wesley Woodyard is still involved with football in his post-playing career. Nowadays, the 12-year NFL veteran works for the NFL Players Association, serving as a Player Director for several franchises, including the Cincinnati Bengals and his old team, the Tennessee Titans. Woodyard is also still very involved in charitable work. His 16Ways Foundation helps youth athletics through a variety of events, drives, and fundraisers, including an annual golf scramble in Lexington, Kentucky. This year, the 16 Ways Charity Golf Scramble will take over Thoroughbred Golf Club on Friday, July 12. To promote the event and his return to the Bluegrass, Woodyard joined KSR’s morning show to share more about 16Way’s mission and to catch up with the Big Blue Nation.

On the show, Tyler Thompson asked Woodyard about being named Kentucky’s Legend for the 2023 SEC Football Legends class. “It was a huge honor,” Woodyard replied. “Let’s just be honest. I went to Kentucky to become a legend. I went to Kentucky to help change the program around. I went to Kentucky to inspire people to come behind me to be better than me.”

Not only did Woodyard become a legend, but now he sees a program in much better shape than the one he worked to change. Still, there is more room to grow, he says,

“I look back at our program, and I think we’re in a good position. I think moving forward, Coach Stoops has some great things. Obviously, he wants to get an SEC title in there, and we would love, as the Big Blue Nation, to see Kentucky as a powerhouse in the SEC, especially with two new additions to the conference.

“So I’m excited for our program, looking forward to seeing what new leaders are gonna step up and hopefully take us over that wall of greatness and become a great powerhouse in the SEC.”

Woodyard attended a UK Football tailgate last fall, so KSR also had him list his favorite tailgate foods for the listeners. He named his dream golf foursome for that 16Ways scramble, too.
