2026 four-star point guard Maddyn Greenway committed to Kentucky on Wednesday. Here is what her commitment means for Kenny Brooks and the Cats moving forward.

Getting a head start in the 2026 class

First things first, what a get for Brooks and the program. There are many reasons why that’s the case, but one of the better ones is that this allows the staff to get a head start in the 2026 class.

With your primary target officially in your grasp, Kentucky can now focus on prospects like Olivia Vukosa, Kamora Pruitt and Amari Byles to get that class rolling.

Here’s a quick look at the Kentucky targets in the 2026 class:

  • 5-star point guard Kate Harpring – No. 2 overall, No. 1 point guard – Marist (GA)
  • 5-star forward Olivia Vukosa – No. 5 overall, No. 2 forward – Christ the King (FL)
  • 5-star guard Trinity Jones – No. 8 overall, No. 4 guard – Bolingbrook (IL)
  • 5-star guard Bella Flemings – No. 12 overall, No. 6 guard – Brennan (TX)
  • 5-star forward Amari Byles – No. 17 overall, No. 3 forward – DeSoto (TX)
  • 4-star point guard Maddyn Greenway – No. 18 overall, No. 3 point guard – Providence Academy (MN) – Committed to Kentucky
  • 4-star forward Kamora Pruitt – No. 24 overall, No. 5 forward – Legion Prep Academy (TX)
  • 4-star guard Sanai Green – No. 27 overall, No. 12 guard – The Steward School (VA)
  • 4-star wing Bella Ragone – No. 28 overall, No. 6 wing – Mill Creek (GA)

Is this home? No, it’s Iowa

It’s no secret that the Greenway last name has some very strong ties to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Maddyn’s father, Chad Greenway, had a storied career wearing the black and gold, and he would proceed to have an 11-year run playing linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings. Needless to say, the Hawkeyes pushed hard for Maddyn knowing about that history.

If Lisa Bluder were still there, then Maddyn Greenway is probably a Hawkeye, following in the footsteps of her father. Instead, she’ll be charting her own path and creating her own legacy as a Kentucky Wildcat.

Massive recruiting win over several well-established programs

Along with Iowa, Kentucky secured Greenway’s commitment over UCLA, Stanford, Duke and Clemson.

UCLA is currently ranked No. 5 in the country, and they have been a powerhouse in the sport for several years now. Stanford, even with the departure of Tara VanDerveer, is one of the top programs in the history of the sport. Duke and Clemson are two more high-profile teams that fought to get Greenway on their teams.

But, of course, Greenway opted with Brooks and the Cats.

The PG problem has been solved for the foreseeable future

So, as far as Kentucky goes, this means that the point guard problem has been solved. Following this season, Georgia Amoore will head off the WNBA. That means that Brooks is going to have to find his point guard for the future.

Of course, Greenway is in the 2026 class, so she won’t be in Lexington next season, but she’ll be the point guard of the future when she arrives. Until then, Brooks is almost certainly going to go to the transfer portal and find him an experienced starting point guard in the meantime.

One of the best PGs in the nation is now a Cat

The 2025 class stunk as far as point guards goes. There just weren’t a ton of great options there, but unlike the 2025 class, the 2026 class is loaded with talent at the one.

KSR got to watch Greenway play in the Run 4 Roses in Louisville over the summer, and she showed that she can compete with anyone on the court. Even after the amazing summer that Kate Harpring had, Greenway still may be the best point guard in the class (she is in KSR’s eyes, at least).

Regardless, there’s some elite talent coming to Kentucky thanks to the commitment of Maddyn Greenway.
