Where Kentucky MBB targets stand in updated class of 2025 player rankings
Summer basketball is behind us as all eyes turn to the upcoming fall season. At the high school level, this is the time when we start to see updated recruiting rankings as scouts and analysts have months of data and film to comb through and evaluate. Our good friends over at On3 got the ball rolling earlier this week with an update to their class of 2025 player rankings.
With five-star wing Cooper Flagg reclassifying to 2024, there was a decent amount of movement near the top of the 2025 rankings. Cameron Boozer, who officially visited UK in September with his twin brother Cayden Boozer, holds down the No. 1 overall spot while a handful of additional Kentucky targets come in right behind him. Notably, 6-foot-5 shooting guard Darryn Peterson (the first 2025 recruit to receive an offer from UK) ranks No. 2 overall while 6-foot-3 shooting Meleek Thomas comes in at No. 4.
Check out where Kentucky’s top targets rank in the latest update below. This is On3’s fourth update to this class with a few more to go. You can view the entire Top 150 here.
Kentucky targets (with offers) in On3’s 2025 player rankings
Cameron Boozer (PF) 6-9, 205 | Christopher Columbus (Miami, FL)
5-star: No. 1 overall, No. 1 PF
- The higher-rated Boozer twin, Cameron took an official visit to UK with his brother in mid-September. It was a shock at the time when the news broke, as the Boozers kept the trip under wraps until they arrived in Lexington. This recruitment was once thought to be a Duke-lock but head coach John Calipari is making the Blue Devils sweat. Cameron is the consensus No. 1 overall player in 2025 and Kentucky is right there in the mix. He and his brother will take an official visit to Florida next month.
Darryn Peterson (SG) 6-5, 175 | Huntington Prep (Canton, OH)
5-star: No. 2 overall, No. 1 SG
- From the beginning, Darryn Peterson has always been Kentucky’s top target in the 2025 class. That remains true as he enters his junior season (although rumors of a reclass to 2024 are still floating around). Peterson picked up his UK offer all the way back in August 2022. He’ll take an unofficial visit to Lexington next Friday, Oct. 14 for Big Blue Madness, where he’ll be one of at least three top 10 prospects from the ’25 class in attendance.
Caleb Wilson (PF) 6-9, 195 | Holy Innocents Episcopal School (Atlanta, GA)
5-star: No. 3 overall, No. 2 PF

- Like Peterson, Caleb Wilson will also take an unofficial visit to UK for Big Blue Madness. Unlike most of the five-star prospects on this list, Wilson has come on late in the process. He began to blow up over the summer, which led to offers from the likes of Kentucky and Duke in June and July, respectively. Kansas even offered the other day. Wilson has official visits locked in this month with Stanford (Oct. 20) and Auburn (Oct. 27).
Meleek Thomas (SG) 6-3, 175 | Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center (Pittsburgh, PA)
5-star: No. 4 overall, No. 2 SG
- Kentucky has been upping its interest in Meleek Thomas the last several months. Calipari paid him two in-person visits last month, although no trip to Lexington has been scheduled as of yet. That being said, one is in the works and is expected sometime this fall/winter. UK cracked his group of 12 finalists, which he dropped in April.
Koa Peat (PF) 6-7, 200 | Perry (Gilbert, AZ)
5-star: No. 7 overall, No. 3 PF
- Koa Peat has taken two recent official visits to Texas and Michigan, both happening in September. Although he earned his Kentucky offer back in April, there hasn’t been much talk about the Wildcats with his recruitment in the months since.
Cayden Boozer (PG) 6-3, 190 | Christopher Columbus (Miami, FL)
4-star: No. 15 overall, No. 1 PG
- Cayden Boozer might be the least-heralded of the twins, but he’s no slouch by any means. On3 now considers him the top-ranked point guard in the 2025 class. Of course, he joined his brother Cameron for their official visit to UK last month. Again, this is not a one-horse race with Duke for the Boozers.
Darius Acuff (PG) 6-0, 175 | IMG Academy (Detroit, MI)
4-star: No. 17 overall, No. 2 PG
- One of the biggest risers this summer, Darius Acuff earned his offer from Kentucky prior to his blowup on the recruiting scene. The Wildcats offered him in April and he’ll also be at Big Blue Madness next Friday. Calipari even went to see him in person just a couple of weeks ago. Acuff recently transferred from his Michigan-based high school to Florida powerhouse IMG Academy. His only official visit taken so far was to Michigan in early September.
Jasper Johnson (CG) 6-3, 165 | Link Academy (Lexington, KY)
4-star: No. 29 overall, No. 2 CG
- A native of Lexington, Jasper Johnson is now at national powerhouse Link Academy (MO) where he will finish out his high school career. He’s officially visited Georgia Tech and West Virginia over the last two weekends. Kentucky offered Johnson back in May and he then visited campus over the summer.
